The state government & City of Sydney will introduce changes to traffic flow in Sydney’s CBD in an attempt to ease congestion at bus choke points.
It is one of the first measures implemented as part of the Transforming Sydney Memorandum of Understanding, involving Transport NSW, the State Transit Authority and the RTA.
The changes are intended to shorten travel times for bus passengers. They include extending clearway times and bus lane operating hours, so public transport can move more easily through the city, especially around the heavily congested Wynyard & CBD areas.
Almost 1,000 state buses & private charter & tour buses & coaches enter the CBD every hour during peak times & at least 300 of them pass through Wynyard.
The changes include new no- stopping zone hours in Market Street between Elizabeth and Castlereagh Streets, new peak hour weekday clearways and bus zone operating hours on sections of York, Bridge and Clarence Streets, and extended no stopping restrictions in the morning peak on part of Park Street.
