Sydney’s roads are an absolute disgrace. What is the state governments solution? Build tunnels and force motorists into it!
Too many times have we seen the move to better Sydney roads with the building of a tunnel in which after completion they close access for some streets, limit lane usage, close streets altogether and try to filter traffic into the tunnel and charge an arm and a leg to use the tunnel.
The government should have learned its lesson the with white elephant of the Cross City Tunnel which was supposed to take 20,000 vehicles off the streets of Sydney’s CBD each day but they failed to give a one month grace period of free travel to get people used to the idea of using it and they charged too much for such a short distance that no one wanted to use it and not many people do. They closed roads leading on to William Street, the removed one lane from William Street which has now made it even worse.
Do people actually get paid for thinking up these proposals?

Now we have the Lane Cove Tunnel which I’m sure you have all heard of the dramas that unfolded during the construction with the collapse of the tunnel at Pacific Hwy off ramp.
The Lane Cove Tunnel or LCT as its locally known is a good piece of road but it’s just too expensive and for heavy vehicles such as buses and coaches and even minibuses it’s double the price so lucky there’s a bus lane along Epping Rd so we can avoid this expensive traffic jam during Sydney’s peak hours.

What the government fails to see is that when they try to force motorists into paying they create the opposite effect and motorists avoid the tunnel and create more traffic on the roads that were meant to be lighter in traffic. It is smarter and wiser to give motorists a choice and having a low toll will increase the usage. It’s smarter to have 50,000 vehicles paying $2 than 10,000 vehicles paying $4.
Once again I ask…. Do people actually get paid for thinking up these proposals?

What happens when there’s a breakdown in one of these tunnels?
The roads and surrounding areas turn into carparks.

Using the LCT which joins the Gore Hill Freeway is fine except in rush hours when motorists don’t want to pay to drive a 10kms p/h. What happens when there’s an accident or a breakdown in any tunnel and the traffic doesn’t move? Do we have to pay?
You bet we pay……it should be free when there are problems in tunnels.

Like most major arterial roads in Sydney, if one has a problem it creates havoc all over Sydney. The road system in Sydney is a joke and tunnels are not the solution if they close roads to force motorists to use them.

There are four (4) major roads in Sydney that need serious attention and I call them the 4P’s;
Although there are many more, these neglected four “P” roads are
•    Parramatta Road
•    Pennant Hills Rd
•    Pacific Hwy
•    Princes Hwy

“P” for procrastinate, problem, pain, pileup, packed, plugged ….come on everybody join in.
